Myth-Asana workshop

The stories at the heart of the Yoga Tradition

18th May 2-5pm at the Yoga Barn, Ubud

The workshop is an epic balance between the rich myths of yoga and their practical application. Have your imagination enlivened with the beautiful messages hidden in contemporary postures. We will explore how to deepen our intimacy with the breath whilst exploring postures and that are often excluded a typical flow sequence: Including arm balances, inversions, backbends and twists and the gods, sages and animals which they were named after.

We will unravel many of the Sanskrit terms that you may have come across in your yoga studies such as ahmisa, satya, abhinivesha, avidya, isvara pranadana, jivanmukta, karma, sadhana, sadhu, samsara, Shraddha, siddhis amongst many more.  Stories will be drawn from the Bhagavad Gita and Ramayana.  Lessons will be taken from the Yoga Sutra and mention made of the Hatha Yoga Pradipika as a means to contextualize asana within yoga’s long history.

This fluid linking between the myths and movement provides a window into the profound yogic path as well how to enliven its ancient wisdom into an actual and practical living art.

Open to all levels of experience.
